Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow

November 10, 2008

You’ve probably heard Aisha’s story. She was a 13-year-old Somali girl who was raped by three men – and then stoned to death for adultery after her father reported the men’s crime. She was buried up to her neck in the ground and stoned by 50 men in front of 1,000 people. A lorry loaded with stones was provided. You won’t be surprised to learn that she cried and pleaded for her life. Or that the three accused men have not been arrested.

This hateful story leaves me unable to fully express my sadness and horror. There is nothing I can do for Aisha, or her grieving family. What I can do is urge anyone who reads this to support Amnesty International. You don’t have to give them money – though it can’t hurt – instead just visit the website and get involved. We can make a difference and make the world a better place – it just needs more of us to stand up and say “No” to cruelty like this.

I wrote about this also. It is tragic. This was a young girl, killed in a brutal way because she was raped. Thanks for writing about this.
