An excellent example to follow
Today’s Independent has a brilliant story, A random act of Christmas kindness, which features the festive work of The Kindness Offensive. You may not be able to achieve results on their scale in time by Thursday, but I bet you could all rustle up a food parcel (particularly good use of all those Bogof offers I think) for a neighbour who may be struggling. If you think they might take offence, then wrap up some chocolates (extra calories for cold days that taste fabulous), or a book, a CD – something to say “you’re part of my community and I haven’t forgotten you”. Stamp on the voice of cynicism and make someone’s Christmas a little bit brighter – and then, like Ebeneezer Scrooge, resolve to honor Christmas in your heart, and try to keep it all the year! (i.e. grab a big cardboard box and start collecting Bogofs and other bargains – toiletries etc – for redistributing to those in genuine need.)
I may not get back to the blog until the New Year, so I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2009.
